Specialising in musculoskeletal orthopaedic, spinal and sports rehabilitation

What is a Physiotherapist?

A Physiotherapist is a professional who helps to restore movement and function when someone has suffered an injury, disability or illness. Physiotherapy is also used as a preventative measure from future injuries.

What do I need to bring?

When you attend your initial assessment your therapist will take you through a subjective assessment which your previous medical (including medication taken) and any surgical history, your health and fitness and your environment such as work and family.  Physiotherapists will also review information such as G.P and/or Consultant letters, diagnostic information such as scans (MRI / CAT), xrays, blood work e.t.c.

How many visits will I need?

The number of treatments will vary depending on the problem and individual. After an assessment, your physiotherapist will discuss their treatment plan for the rehabilitation process and prescribe a programme going forward.  Should you have limitations such as time, ability or finances these will all be taken into consideration.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Throughout your treatment, your therapist will perform (as appropriate and based on ability) various exercises as part of your functional work. This will require comfortable and flexible clothing. Sportswear, shorts, tracksuit bottoms or equivalent are recommended or alternatively we can provide shorts and a t-shirts.

How do I make an appointment?

You can get in touch by phone by calling the main switchboard on 0345 370 8222 or you can send an enquiry through the contact page. Alternatively use the quick and easy online booking page, which is the method we prefer, you will even receive a discount for booking online.

Do I have to be referred by a doctor?

This depends on whether you have an insurance policy or if you are self- funding your treatment. If you are self funding your treatment a referral is unnecessary. However insured patients often have the requirement of a GP or Consultant referral prior to treatment.  Check with your insurance policy provider before starting your treatment.

Treatment duration depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, your past medical history, and other factors.  Re-evaluations will be done to assess your progress. There will be communication between us and your other healthcare providers to ensure that we are working towards your targets.

We see and treat patients for a wide range of conditions and diagnoses.  Physiotherapy treatment can be applied to bones, joints and soft tissue such as neck and spine pain, hip pain and sporting injuries. At Marylebone Physiotherapy & Sports Medicine, we specialise on musculoskeletal conditions in particular. Our treatments are suitable for conditions such as sciatica, back pain, osteoarthritis and post operative Orthopaedic surgery.

We recommend either a 45 minute or 60 minute initial assessment as this allows your Physiotherapist to go through your medical history and perform some tests prior to treatment. The length of your follow on treatment sessions will depend on the treatment programme that will be prescribed after your intial assessment. Please be aware that if you are insured with AXA PPP (UK) or Bupa (UK) that there are restrictions on treatment times.

We are recognised by all insurance companies, with direct insurer billing by contracted arrangement.  Please contact us for more information.  Should you be with a company that is unknown to us we can organise registering with them.  A valid membership number and pre-authorization code will be required for insurer billing.  It is important to always be aware of the limitations of your policy, particularly excesses, number of sessions covered and when approval starts and finishes.   Our sister clinic Anatomica provides treatment for Axa patients. Please click here for further information.

This depends on who your insurance is held with. We have an agreement in place to bill Bupa UK and AXA PPP directly at negotiated rates which are lower than our self pay fees displayed on our website. As we are covered by all major domestic and international insurers your physiotherapy treatment would be eligible for you to receive reimbursement, however the amount you are entitlted to be reimbursed may depend on the level of your policy and we would recommend that you check this with your insurance company before booking an appointment.

We operate a 24 hour cancellation policy. You can cancel your appointment either by calling the clinic on 0345 370 8222 or email the Clinic Angels at reception using the contact page on this website.  Alternatively, you can simply send an email to info@marylebonephysio.com
